FAQs

WHAT JOBS ARE AVAILABLE IN MAKEUP ARTISTRY?

Our graduates find work in many areas of artistry. Some freelance doing weddings and special events. Some own makeup businesses, or become national artists for major cosmetic companies. Some work with dermatologists and plastic surgeons. Others work with photographers, models, and designers doing makeup for print ads, catalogs, fashion magazines, music videos, and runway shows. Many artists work with celebrities and actors in the theater or work in film and television doing motion pictures, commercials, daytime television, sitcoms, reality shows, sports and news.

WHAT KIND OF MONEY CAN I MAKE AS A MAKEUP ARTIST?

The quality of your work and your commitment to excellence are two deciding factors; next is which industry you choose. The cosmetic retail industry is the entry level for many makeup artists. Many artists start at $12 – $26 per hour with or without sales commission. Artists doing bridal makeup make $75 – $1000 depending on location and the size of the bridal party. Production work is paid by “day rate” which averages between $250 – $1500 per day for Print, Video, and Runway work and between $400 – $850 per day for Film, (and time and ½ or double time for overtime).

DO YOU HELP GRADUATES WITH JOB PLACEMENT?
Marketing is integrated into the curriculum so that at graduation, students are armed with the essential marketing tools they will need to begin their job search. They learn how to create business cards, a resume, and begin creating a winning portfolio. Students also plan their marketing strategy, develop interview skills and are counseled concerning their individual career pursuit. Graduates then are able to begin their job search and meet with employers with confidence.

We do not guarantee placement. It is up to each individual to seek the job openings, apply, interview, and obtain employment.

I HAVE MY OWN SET OF BRUSHES AND MAKEUP, DO I STILL NEED TO PAY MATERIAL FEES?

Material Fees cover photographic fees and materials, all makeup and special effects supplies used in class, and the Freelance Makeup Kit, Brush Kit, Airbrushing Machine, and Set Bag. Students are trained with the specific brushes and products in the school’s kits. Due to sanitary concerns, no outside products may be added to your kit until you have completed the basic courses.
